Start Early for Success

Jill Shortreed, CBA of Charleston Balloon Company in Mount Pleasant, SC, USA:

We work mostly with our colleges and some of our high schools. I actually start working on securing jobs with them in the summer and fall. I send emails to all the department heads at the colleges, and to the interns.

We do balloon drops for the colleges and a lot of classic decor, along with other services like confetti launches. Schools also love to see their names and colors! The elementary and middle schools like air-fill decor because it’s long-lasting and they get big bang for their buck. They use it for week-long celebrations, dances, and other functions. Keep in mind some schools are latex-free and some are not, so make sure you know what requirements you’re working with.

Getting your foot in the door with graduations can lead to lots of other opportunities to decorate school events. We also do proms, homecoming, back-to-school, open houses, college/career nights, and Sertoma Classic (where all the local high schools compete for most spirited).
